Stars and Galaxies

The LIRA’s Stars and Galaxies Group at the Paris Observatory is composed of experts in stellar physics and in galaxy formation.

The synergy between these two fields is of particular relevance for Galactic Archaeology, which aims to study the formation of galaxies in the Local Group, through the study of their individual stars.

The unique diversity within our Group helps us combine advanced skills in both instrumental hardware development (multi-object IR and visible spectroscopy, UV and visible spectro-polarimetry, high precision photometry) and software development (for instrumentation or numerical simulations of astrophysical systems) as well as a broad theoretical expertise in our respective fields.

Together, these give our Group its leading role on the national and international research scene, as testified by our major involvement in flagship space missions within the fields of galactic and stellar physics.
